Modern Times (1936)

Modern Times was authored and directed by Charlie Chaplin in 1936. In this Chaplin’s masterpiece, his emblematic Little Tramp character battles to stay alive in the modern, industrialized world. The movie examines the needy jobs and economic problems lots of people experienced at the time of the Great Depression, problems that were originated, in Chaplin’s perspective, by the effectiveness of advanced industrialization.

Modern Times, although silent, is absolutely genius and hilarious. And it includes one of the funniest scenes in cinema history.
